Chaplain, Scott Sr. age 59, retired as a Captain with the Passaic County Sheriff's Department in 2002 after 28 years of service. Known as an icon in the firearms and special operations community, Scott served as the Commander of the Sheriff's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and Passaic County's Range Master. He was also a member of the Bomb Squad, a Master Repelling Instructor, and one of the earliest members of the Sheriff's Emergency Response Team, responsible for responding to riots and violent incidents in the Passaic County Jail in the early 80's. His honors and awards were many. Known as "Daddy", by many in the department as a result of his fatherly character and personality, his leadership and mentoring traits were unparalleled, leading the men and women under his command with a fair but firm hand, rock solid guidance, and inspirational leadership. He is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart since they were both 13 years old, Geraldine, his daughter Caitlynn, son Scott Jr., and daughter Christine, along with her husband, Rob Seugling, and their three children Karlie, Sean, and Brayden, who loved and adored their "Pop Pop". As well as Scott's older brother Craig Chaplain, who called Scott his "best Friend", since he was four years old. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Nilsa, and nieces Staci and Melissa, nephew Sergio, and his extended family, the men and women of the Passaic County Sheriff's Department, and law enforcement officers of Passaic County. He is predeceased by his parents, John & Ann (nee Sedeyn) Chaplain (both in 1995) Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home 111 Union Blvd., Totowa on Tuesday at 9:10 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at Our Lady of Pompeii R.C. Church, corner of Dayton and Caldwell Streets, Paterson at 10:00 AM. Entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Paterson. Viewing for Captain Chaplain will be held on Monday from 1-4 and 7-10 PM at Festa Memorial Funeral Home.
