Maggi, Angelo Carlo, “Take me home, country roads to the place I belong…take me home, country roads.” Angelo Carlo Maggi was born in the municipality of Deiva Marina in the province of La Spezia, Italy on October 5, 1924. Angelo bravely served during World War II as a “partisan.” He volunteered near the end of the war to aid the British and American forces in capturing any remaining enemy soldiers from the hills and small towns of Liguria, northern Italy. He proudly displayed his Certificate of Patriotism, signed by the British Commander of the Allied Forces in the Mediterranean. Mostly everyone called him Carlo and his reputation for his homemade ravioli and manicotti is known far and wide. Along with his wife, Laura, they ran a small “Mom and Pop” deli in their Paterson neighborhood. The store was a hub of social activity where friends and neighbors gathered to not only buy items but to also to catch up on the news and local happenings.
