Dear Laura, Carla and family... My deepest sympathy and condolences regarding the passing of Carlo, who I knew as Carlino. Growing up in NJ, Carlino and Laura were like family to my parents, Dario Sr. and Rose Valente, my brother Chris and I. Almost daily, my father would go to their store for coffee and socializing with friends who also gathered there. If I wasn't in school, I'd be there with my dad. While the grownups chatted, I'd play with Carla. Many a holiday, and certainly my birthdays, were spent with the Maggi family at my home along with the other Paisano's. Good thing, because they helped break up my mom and dad fighting after a wonderful meal, drinking wine, singing Italian songs and my parents fighting over the decision to serve black or brown coffee. Often, Laura and Carlino were the first call made when my mom needed something. While I'm sure reluctant, they were always there to help out. Just wanted to share a few memories of growing up Italian with the Maggi family. My thoughts and prayers are with all... Dario Valente Jr.
