Obituary of John Sellitto

Sellitto, John J. "Captain John" age 86 of Paterson at rest in Paterson on January 29, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Joan "Marge" (nee Mc Mullen) Sellitto (1987). Longtime companion of the late Shirley Halliwell (2015). Dear cousin of Theresa Dop of Wanaque Twsp, Harry Wenzel of RI and Robert Embrich of Greenwood Lake. Brother-in-law of Joyce Schober of Oak Ridge. He is also survived by several godchildren, as well as multiple second cousins and many beloved friends. Born in Paterson, he was a lifelong city resident. He was a Captain for the Paterson Fire Department, Paterson, for 38 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of the FMBA Local #2. He was chairman of the blood drive for the Fire Department for 40 years. He was also a member of the NJ State Exempt & Relief Organization. He was a US Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. Mr. Sellitto was also a member of the American Legion Post #227, Totowa. He was a lifetime parishioner of St. Gerard R.C. Church, Paterson. He was a thoroughbred Horse Owner. "Poco" was the most winning horse at Penn National. He also loved to travel and was an avid bowler. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Friday at 9:15 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Gerard R.C. Church, Paterson at 10:00 AM. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa. Friends may visit Thursday 4:00 - 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Paterson Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 6624, Paterson, NJ 07509 would be appreciated.
