Ashby, Joseph E., Jr., age 85 of Lincoln Park at rest in Pequannock on May 20, 2012. Beloved husband of the former Anna Goffredo. Loving father of Theodore Ashby and his wife Ann of Pompton Plains, Tena Elman of North Haledon, and Eve Ashby and her husband Richard Stewart of Beaufort, SC. Beloved grandfather of six granddaughters. Loving brother of the late Mary Gosse and Daisy Swintek. Born in Bedford, MA he lived there for a short time before moving to northern New Jersey. He was the Owner of Ashby's Catering, Hawthorne for 30 years before retiring in 1992. Mr. Ashby graduated from the Al Somers Umpire School in Florida and went on to be a college baseball umpire in the NY metro area for 25 years and was a member of the Bergen County Umpires Association. He is a WW II veteran and was also an avid bowler. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Thursday at 10:00 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Gerard R.C. Church, Paterson at 10:30 AM. Friends may call Wednesday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Jimmy Fund, C/O The Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, Massachusetts 02284 would be appreciated.
