LaVia, Joseph age 84, of Paterson at rest in Paterson on June 27, 2007. He was an Auto Mechanic for the US National Guard, Newark for 38 years before retiring in 1985. Mr. LaVia was a parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Paterson. He was a WW II Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post #35, Union. Born in Brooklyn, NY he lived in Queens before moving to Paterson in 1953. Beloved husband of the late and former Aida Ann Pizzi. Brother of Helen Merlinthauler of FL, Lillian Stampfl of CA and Gloria Hoffman of Budd Lake. Brother in law of John and Gilda Bordonaro of Belleville. Uncle of Joan Santeramo of Bloomfield, Suzanne Gaccione of Mt. Olive and John Bordonaro of Bloomfield. Survivors include several other nieces. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa, on Monday at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Paterson at 9:30 AM. Entombment at Garden of Memories, Twsp of Washington. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. For more information go to www.festamemorial.com
