Backert, Joseph E., Sr. of St. Petersburg, FL at rest in Largo, FL on December 8, 2006. Beloved husband of the late and former Ann Hogan. Father of Gail A. Monochello and her husband Anthony, Donna J. Bruen and her husband Frank, Debra L. Sagan and her husband John and Joseph E. Backert Jr. and his wife Laura. Brother of Evelyn Crowder and Catherine Hagans. Survivors include 11 grandchildren, 2 Great grandsons, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa, on Thursday at 9:00 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. James R.C. OBITUARY
Joseph E. Backert, Sr. age 84 of St. Petersburg, FL died Friday. Born in Elkhart, IN he lived in Paterson for 55 years before moving to St. Petersburg, FL. He was a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service, Paterson for many years before retiring in 1988. Prior to that, he worked for Berles Carton, Paterson for many years. Mr. Backert was a WW II Army veteran. He served in the European Theater and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the National Association of Letter Carriers, Paterson.
