Schimmenti, Maria (nee Onorato), age 84 of Berkeley Heights at rest on January 22, 2023.  Beloved wife of the late Giuseppe Schimmenti (1999).  Strong, devoted, and loving mother of Anna Maria Kupchack and her husband, John of Cedar Grove, the late Salvatore Schimmenti (2015) and the late Joseph Schimmenti (2012). Mother-in-law of Sandra Nardone Schimmenti Quigley and Grace Basile.  Nonna of Cristina Redmerski and her husband Robbie, Alicia Kupchack and her fiancé Michael Carbone, Michael Kupchack, and Joseph, Salvatore, Alexander, Angelo and Julia Schimmenti.  Great-nonna of Robbie and Carly Redmerski.  Sister of Rosa Onorato and her husband Giovanni Patina of Italy.  Sister-in-law of Maria Stella Schimmenti and her late husband Gaetano Gangi of Italy. Aunt of Maria Teresa Patina and her husband Marco Nigrelli of Italy and Giancarlo Patina of Italy.  Born in Polizzi Generosa, Prov of Palermo, Sicily, Italy, to the late Giuseppe Onorato and Francesca (nee Albanese) Onorato.  She came to the United States in 1966 residing in Paterson, West Paterson, Wayne then Fairfield before moving to Berkeley Heights.  She was a sample maker for various coat factories, Paterson for thirty years. After that, she worked in the Deli Department at A&P, West Paterson for six years before retiring in 2006.  Mrs. Schimmenti was a member of the ILGWU and the Totowa Seniors.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa, on Monday at 9:30 AM.  Funeral Mass to follow at St. James R.C. Church, Totowa at 10:00 AM.  Interment at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa.  Friends may visit Sunday 2-6 PM.
