Obituary of Maria Concetta Verderame

Verderame, Maria Concetta (nee Pisacreta), age 85, of Totowa, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday morning, September 5, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 9, 1936, in Serino, Prov. di Avellino, Italy to the late Giuseppe and Giulietta (nee Masturzi) Pisacreta. She immigrated to the United States in 1969 with her husband Ciccio and daughters to join her parents and siblings residing in Paterson before moving to Totowa. She was a very skilled seamstress and worked at All Star Fashions in Paterson for many years before retiring. Beloved wife of the late Francesco Verderame. Devoted mother of Anna Maria Amato and Sal of Totowa, and Grace Curcio and Ralph of Totowa. Cherished nonna (grandmother) of Mattia Doyle and her husband Philip and Anthony Amato and his wife Lindsay, and Luigi and Frank Curcio. Loving great nonna of Juliet, Natalia, Giselle, Santino and Matteo. Dear sister of Umberto Pisacreta and Maddalena Minerva and of the late Ippolito and Erminio Pisacreta. She is also survived by many sisters and brother's in-law, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her very much. Concetta's love and dedication to her family was unwavering, her strong work ethic and family values will always live on through her surviving family. Concetta spent her free time babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren, telling old stories, giving wise advice and caring words of encouragement when needed. Tending to her vegetable garden and flowers, and making the best homemade tomato sauce. She loved cooking and baking and her favorite thing in the world was having everyone in the family over for Sunday dinners. It was what she enjoyed the most in life, gathering the whole family together. For her, food was love and everyone sure did love her amazing meals. She was truly the matriarch of the family. She was selfless, always more concerned with the needs and wishes of others than with her own. Anyone who knew her will greatly miss her warm smile, gentle demeanor and kind soul. May she rest in peace, always and forever in our hearts and minds. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Thursday at St. James RC Church, Totowa at 12:45 PM. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum, Totowa. Visitation is private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N.
