Obituary of John F Savastano

Savastano, John F. age 94 of Paterson at rest in Paterson on June 5, 2022. Beloved husband of the late, Anne Savastano (2022). Loving father of John H. Savastano and his wife Linda of Naples, FL, David Savastano and his wife Joyce of Totowa, and Scott Savastano and his wife Eileen of Mantoloking. Dear son of the late James and the late Ann. Dear grandfather of Christopher, Alexa, and Nicholas Savastano and Brian and Jeff Callahan. Great-grandfather to 7 great-grandchildren. Brother of the late Henry "Hank", the late Rose, the late John, and the late Pat. Born in Paterson, he lived in Paterson for his entire life. He was a Chef for Reckitt & Coleman for 5 years retiring in 1993. Prior to that he was the chef at the Hamilton Club, Paterson, Maplewood Country Club, Maplewood, Rock Spring Country Club, West Orange, Plainfield Country Club, Edison, Deal Country Club, Deal, and High Mountain Country Club, Franklin Lakes. John did not just make his career as a chef, he truly loved making people happy with his culinary expertise. He could take the least of meals and “boost“ it into a gastronomical delight. He was trained not only in French cuisine, but also in Italian, German and Japanese cuisines as well.   He was a master baker and food decorator (… Oh, if you ever had his apple pie…) John was also passionate about his lawn which he kept manicured to perfection. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden with Anne, his partner in life, who sadly, predeceased him by only 31 days. That garden yielded ingredients for many a dinner or side dish while his dear Anne challenged him to be an even better chef by producing her own amazing dishes. John also enjoyed shopping for household supplies which became even better if he had some money saving coupons to use! His weekly jaunt to the grocery store was as much a shopping trip as a social event as the cashiers and clerks all welcomed him by name. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Bonaventure RC Church, 174 Ramsey Street, Paterson, on Tuesday at 10:15 AM. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum, Totowa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Bonaventure R.C. Church, Paterson. Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
