Obituary of Arthur D Mayer
Mayer, Arthur Douglass age 90 of Totowa Boro, at rest in Wayne on October 5, 2021. A blessing to the world, Art was born on November 6, 1930 to Dorothy (McCandless) and Albert Mayer in the Bronx. Married to his sweetheart Irene (Zaleski) on July 31, 1954 for 58 years, until her passing in 2013. They created many loving memories in Jersey City, Woodland Park, Paterson, and Little Falls. Loving Father of Donna Scarmazzo and her husband James of Paterson and Denise Hagan of Totowa. Loving Poppy of Kerri Hagan of Totowa and Stacy Tafro and her husband Victor of Denville. Proud and loving Great Grandfather of Mckenzie Tafro. Survived by Brother and Sisters in Law Walter and Mary Ann Zaleski and John and Jean Donofrio, as well as many nieces and nephews. His pet, Blake, will surely miss him. Predeceased by his Twin Brother Albert Mayer.
Arthur was a proud Army Veteran, ranking Sergeant in the Korean War, earning numerous medals and commendations. He was an active member of the VFW and was always sporting his Korean War Veteran cap.
Arthur was a devoted and diligent employee of Con Edison for 34 years, retiring in the Field Operations Division, Manhattan, New York. Prior to Con Ed, he shoveled coal on tug boats and worked at Western Electric Company in Jersey City.
Art loved spending vacations with his family in Wildwood and trips to Atlantic City. His happiness was his Wife, Daughters, Granddaughters, and new Great Granddaughter. He cared for his family with love and devotion; their happiness meant the world to him. He worried and always made sure that everyone had enough to eat. If you ever needed anything, all you had to do was let him know and he would be the first person to help. Arthur was a special gift from the Lord and brought happiness to all those who were blessed to know him.
