Obituary of John M Phelan

Phelan, Captain John M. age 58 of Clifton at rest in Paterson on March 7, 2021. Beloved husband of Deputy Chief Lourdes M. (nee Mercado) Phelan. Dear son of the late John P. Phelan (2006) and the late Kathleen (nee Hulley) Phelan (2016). Loving brother of Sharon Phelan. Dear nephew of Rachel Giannini and Marcy Phelan. Also survived by several beloved cousins. Born in Paterson, he lived in Paterson for most of his life before moving to Clifton. He was a Police Officer for the Paterson Police Department for the past 37 years attaining rank of Captain. John was a member and former drummer for the Passaic County Emerald Society Pipe & Drums. He was a member of the NJ Police Honor Legion and Paterson PBA Local #1. He was a member of the Do-Good House, Totowa and the Knights of Columbus Council #240, Paterson, NJ. He also graduated from Seton Hall University with a Master's Degree. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Friday at 9:15 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. John's Cathedral, Paterson at 10:00 AM. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa. Friends may visit Thursday 4:00 - 8:00 PM.
