Obituary of Joan C. Rooney

Rooney, Joan C. (nee Smith), age 93 of Hamburg passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2021. Beloved wife of Thomas C. Rooney, Jr. of Hamburg. Loving mother of Theresa J. Flynn and her husband Patrick of Hamburg, and Joan M. Gutkowski and her husband Robert of Wayne. Dear grandmother of Amanda Gutkowski and her fiancé Tony Coccaro, and Bobby Gutkowski. Sister of Louise Gallupo of Galloway Twsp, and the late Joseph Smith. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Born in Plainfield, she lived most of her life in Paterson, before recently moving to Hamburg. She was a Homemaker as well as the First Lady of Paterson in 1973 and 1974. She was happiest living with her family on Grove Street. Joan dedicated her life to taking care of her family and always told them that her job was to pray for all of them one by one. She was also very proud to be Irish and passed that down to her children, who she taught to enjoy their Irish heritage.  She went to Heaven to join her predeceased son and daughter. All services are private at the request of the family due to Covid-19. Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa is in charge of arrangements.
