Obituary of Diana Vega

Diana Vega, age 75, passed away on August 13, 2020 at Oakland Care Center in Oakland, NJ. Diana was born in Manati, Puerto Rico and moved to Brooklyn, NY with her parents and siblings at the age of 8. After she married, she moved to Paterson, NJ where she and her husband raised their three children: Lisa, Miguel (“Yuyo”) and Mayra. Diana loved children so much that, for many years, she served as a foster-mom to under-privileged kids in need of a stable home. First and foremost, Diana was a loyal and dedicated mother, grandmother and friend. After raising her children, Diana worked at St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital as a Certified Nurse’s Aide and then a Registrar when she retired in 2005. Anyone that knew Diana knew that her family ALWAYS came first and her large family was her life. She treasured all eight of her siblings (Hilda, Irma, Gladys, Pedro, David, Milton, Harry and her deceased brother, Faustino), her three children, six grandchildren (Maria, Hector Jr. Jessicalyn, Michael, Mila and Alexander) six great-grandchildren (Romeo, Julius, Naida, Arianna, Emily, Javian, plus baby Vega who is due to be born in the Fall) and embraced every moment she could with each of them. She made friends everywhere she went and was well known for her fabulous cooking and hosting large family gatherings. After years of experiencing various symptoms, consulting with many specialists and falling and fracturing her hip, Diana was diagnosed with Corticobasal Degernation (CBD) in 2018, which is a rare progressive neurological disorder. This condition led to her needing 24-hour care, for which the Oakland Care Center nurses and staff did a great job in doing. Not a day went by without her children, friends and family visiting her at Oakland. Before the Pandemic, she was able to celebrate her 75th birthday surrounded by more than 40 of her local family and friends. Although the disease took away her mobility and ability to speak, you could feel the love in her heart and see the love in her eyes every time she saw her family and friends enter her room. Diana will truly be missed by all. Rest in Peace Diana. . . . for heaven has gained another Angel. Funeral and burial details are as follows: Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 15 from 8am to 10am at Festa Funeral Home, 111 Union Ave, Totowa, NJ (973) 790-8696. Burial to follow at 10:30am at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 52 Totowa Road, Totowa, NJ (973) 942-3368. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
