Obituary of John A Carluccio
John Anthony Carluccio passed away on November 7 in Wayne NJ at the age of 96. John was born in Hoboken to John and Rose Carluccio (nee Marinco) December 10, 1921. His family later moved to Cliffside Park in 1931 where he spent the latter half of his childhood and graduated from Cliffside Park High School in 1940. He went on to attend the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, but in January 1943 John was drafted and was sent to serve in the South Pacific, often as a forward observer, with a Field Artillery unit of the Army’s 32nd Division during World War II, and was part of the retaking of several islands including New Guinea. After his discharge from the Army he returned to Penn and earned his degree in Industrial Management. John held several positions in manufacturing businesses starting with quality control at Botany Mills, Passaic and at Garmold and at Container Corporation, Totowa, along with plant management at Container Corporation, and retired from Avon Products in NYC in 1988 where he spent most of his career as a packaging engineer. John and his recently deceased wife, Kathryn (nee Mulhern) married in October 1950 and moved to Totowa in 1953. He is survived by his son John M. Carluccio of Paterson, daughter Carole Carluccio and her husband David Millstein of Alamo, CA and grandsons, John A. Carluccio of Brooklyn, James Carluccio of Paterson and Michael Millstein of Walnut Creek, CA. He is also survived by brother, Kenneth Carluccio of Wyckoff, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his sister Doris Anrig. John loved sports, was a good athlete and played baseball while in college until the War. He was an avid Yankee fan, bowled and golfed most of his life and until recently played horseshoes in the Barnyard Tavern Summer League in Totowa. John liked going to Atlantic City, and also spent countless hours learning and enjoying his grandsons’ sports of water polo and soccer often attending matches. He also appreciated music, played the banjo, especially enjoyed Nat King Cole and attended church every Sunday. John was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, family member and friend and will be forever loved and missed. Visitation hours are 4 to 8 PM Thursday, November 15 at Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd. Totowa, NJ 07512. There will be a funeral mass at 9:30 AM on Friday, November 16 at St. James RC Church, 32 St. James Place, Totowa, NJ 07512. Burial will immediately follow the funeral mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Rd., North Arlington, NJ.
