Murphy, Edward J. age 90 of Paterson at rest in Wayne on May 29, 2018. Beloved husband of sixty three years of the former Edith J. Venezia of Paterson. Loving Father of Edward J. Murphy, Jr. and his wife Debra of Totowa and Sean P. Murphy and his wife Diane of Little Falls. Dear grandfather of Christopher Murphy and his wife Ann, Thomas Murphy and his wife Allison and Joseph, Steven and Michael Murphy. Great grandfather of Sarah and Teresa Murphy. Brother of Alice Schmalfeldt of West Milford, Jean Kotarsky of Spring Hill, FL. and the late Theresa De Lallo and Anthony Murphy. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Born in Paterson, he was a lifelong resident. He was a Clerk for the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Paterson. Prior to that, he was a Mechanical Engineer working in the nuclear industry. Mr. Murphy was an alderman for the City of Paterson. He was a Passaic County Freeholder. He was a member and Chairman of the Paterson Board of Adjustment. He was the Director, Chairman, and President of the Boys Club of Paterson. He was a WW II Army Air Corp Veteran serving in the European Theater, and a member of the American Legion Post #227 in Totowa. He was a member of the Passaic Valley Elks Lodge #2111, Totowa. He was the PBA Local 265 (Passaic County Prosecutors) Man of the Year. He was a parishioner of St. Bonaventure R.C. Church and Our Lady of Pompeii R.C. Church, both in Paterson. He enjoyed the Italian Circle, the Meadowlands Track and Atlantic City. He was also an avid Notre Dame Football fan. He enjoyed time spent with family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa, on Friday at 9:45 AM. Funeral mass to follow at St. Bonaventure R.C. Church, Paterson at 10:15 AM. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum, Totowa. Friends may visit on Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105 would be appreciated.
