Obituary of Roger J Smith

Smith, Roger J. of Pompton Lakes on November 11, 2017. Born in Paterson NJ, Roger was a US Navy veteran who proudly served his country in many parts of the world and also as a Paterson Police Officer for 29 years. Beloved husband of Michele (nee Mazzola), devoted grandfather of Christopher Smith, beloved brother to Dena, Robert, James and the late William. Also survived by several loving in-laws and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and 3 very special friends: Jerry, Joe and Mike. Roger donned a naval uniform and flew patrols over Vietnam and was also a combat veteran of ground operations in Cam Ranh Bay. His next patrol was on the streets of Paterson as a Police Officer. After retiring from the Police Department, Roger became a Security Supervisor for the North Jersey Water Supply Commission. He was a Life Member of PBA Local 1 and Life Member of VFW Post #2906, Pompton Lakes and Life Member of DAV. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 14th, from 2 PM - 4 PM and 7 PM - 9 PM at Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, NJ. Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 AM at St. John's Cathedral, Paterson on Wednesday, November 15th. We will be departing the funeral home at 9:15 AM for the funeral mass. Entombment to followthe mass at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum, Totowa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tomorrows Children's Fund, 30 Prospect Avenue, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
