Van Der Tas, Gerrit age 84 of Totowa at rest in Wayne on September 19, 2013. Beloved husband of the former Antonia "Toni" Hanswyk of Totowa. Loving Father of Reini Polzer and her husband Bill of Montville. Dear Grandfather of Lisa D'Amato and her husband Stephen of Denville. Dear Great Grandfather of Luke Avery D'Amato. Brother of Aat Van Der Tas and Winston Van Der Tas both of the Netherlands. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Born in Vlaardingen, Netherlands, he came to the U.S.A. in 1954 settling in Totowa. He was a Machinist for Nabisco, Inc., Fair Lawn for fifteen years before retiring in 1991. Mr. Van Der Tas was a member of the Bakery & Confectionery Union. He was also a member of the F. & A.M., Lodge #305, Clifton. He also loved to travel. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a prayer service at the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa on Sunday at 8:00 PM. Cremation will be private. Friends may visit Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of New Jersey, 400 Broadacres Drive, 1st Floor, Bloomfield, N.J. 07003 would be appreciated.
