Jerry was one of a kind. He was a great barber as well as friend and my visits were always filled with laughter and whimsical quotes. After Jerry retired I lost touch with him but never forgot about him. I offend wondered how he was and when I finally did find out about, he has passed. I always will miss you my friend and may you Rest In Peace.

My family was so saddened to learn of Jerry's passing.. I have so many fond memories of him, from my first haircut, him cutting my hair before I got married, to him giving my son his first haircut. But the memories I will always cherish are those of him telling me jokes while cutting my hair and debating with my dad who was going to win the Packer-Giants game. I hope they are now together in heaven telling jokes, debating football but most of all keeping and eye on their families that they loved so much.
With heavy hearts and deepest condolences,
Jay, Cat, Jo-Ann, Marc Anthony, Matteo, GianLuca and Camillo Minichino

Gerry, From the moment my brother Danny and I entered the Hair Shop as young teenagers, we knew we'd be returning and did so for over 25 years. We didn't mind waiting up to 1 1/2 hours for a haircut, as we always left with a smile and some great jokes to tell our friends. Over time, most of my family were Hair shop customers and life-long friends. It wasn't until I was older and had a family of my own that I realized how special a man you truly were. Thanks for being there to listen, sharing your knowledge and stories, a good laugh when we all needed it and the hugs as we said good-bye. Your love for your wife, daughters, son-in-laws and gradchildren was evident in the glow on your face every time you spoke of them.
You will be truly missed!!! God has a new angel, with a great sense of humor and even a greater heart!
Rest in peace, my friend. My condolences to the entire Piserchia family!

Dear Joan and family,
I am very sad to hear that Gerry has passed. I will miss his big loving heart, that he really couldn't hide, no matter how he tried, to those who really got him.
I know there are no words that really make sense of things, or take away grief, because when the heart loves, it wants an outlet, a place for that love, and it hurts to not have it.
I hope in time your hearts can feel the link with his that remains, and send your love there, for If I know anything about Gerry, his whole existence was and is about loving his family, and being there for them, and sacrificing for them, that is who he is, and form will not, cannot, change that ever.
I know the strength of this family, and the love you have for one another, and I pray that all the happy memories sustain you and remind you of the love that waits, as time goes by.
Your in my thoughts, heart, and prayers,
Love
Dr. Terrie

I just want to thank everyone for the kind words and touching memories about my father. Our entire family is just overwhelmed by this outpouring of love for him. It is so comforting to know that so many people loved him as we did. To all his customers/friends please know how special you all were to him. The Hair Shop was a part of him and he considered you all a part of his family. He was truly a special man and we are all so blessed to have been part of his extraordinary life.
With much love and appreciation

My heart sank when I read the news of "Uncle Jerry's" passing...I don't think I knew his last name until I was in my 20's.... alway just Uncle Jerry to me...
It's been many years since I have seen him but not a Sunday goes by, especially during football season that he didn't come to my mind.... I am a Giant Fan because of him.
He taught me that - "You stick by your team.... no matter what, even when they STINK!"
It's been almost 20 years since my Dad's passing but hopefully when he get's where he's going he'll hang that barber pole up there in Heaven and all the boys will come running -
I am sure they're all due for a trim, a shave or if nothing else have a great place to hang out shoot the bull and kill a couple of hours...like the old times...
XOXO
With love and great sympathy,
Jimmy Castelletti Jr.

My sympathy and prayers to the entire Piserchia family on your loss. Jerry was a dear, dear friend of mine since his day one at the Hair Shop.
My family always knew I had been there when I would have a fresh crop of jokes to relay from Jerry's lips. More than the humor, there were in depth conversations on just about any topic. He would listen and offer sage advice for your problems. I know his life was steeped in faith.
Jerry continued cutting my hair up to a week ago Friday after our usual gab session over breakfast at the bagel shop where he held court. I would have never thought this past Friday was the last time I would see him. To say I am stunned would be putting it lightly and I feel a deep loss. I will never forget him.
The consumate family man, always bragging about his wife, daughters, grandkids, and son in laws. His family was his life.
Rest well my friend.

To Joanie, Jodi, Deanna. and Jaime: I am sure you can imagine how I feel right now. you all have my deepest sympathies -- and Peggy's. There are some people who become fixtures in your life. Jerry was such a fixture in mine. I was one of his first clients in his own shop and was still customer more than 40 years later -- even after his retirement. the time we spent together was filled with laughter, politics, cars and football. Lol. My visits with him at home are something I will always cherish. my last haircut was last Thursday. You know I loved Jerry and I was very proud to have him as a friend. He loved all of you so much. He absolutely adored you, Joanie, and it was obvious to everybody. His shop was filled with pics of his beautiful daughters. he was so very proud of all of his daughters. I know that for a fact. His family was all. all of you have all of our love now.

To the Piserchia family;
I was very sad to hear of the news of Gerald Piserchia. I remember him to be a jolly person like his father Pat. I remember the times my Dad, Michael Piserchia took me over their home in Belleville and spent time with his sister Giovanna and the family. I have not seen in a long time but was happy to spend time with Michael and his family last year at his home. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife and his children.
Unfortunately, I live in Waretown and am working the rest of the week and will not be able to attend the viewing.
With deepest sympathy,
Gail & David Beach

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Jerry. He was a great guy. He cut my hair for so many years. I used to love going to his shop. We would talk Giants football pretty much every time. He cut my hair up until 1989 when my wife Donna and I moved to South Jersey.
Peace & Love to all of his family. He left a huge mark on the lives of so many and will be truly missed.
Love you Jerry!!

My sincere condolences to the Piserchia Family.
Jerry was an absolute "fixture" in the town of Totowa...I recall walking by the shop, and he'd always look up briefly from his haircutting duties to bid me a smile and cheerful hello! Never forgot a name, either!
One of the "good-guys" we meet on our short time on this Earth.

I just passed Jerry's old shops on Union Blvd the other day and thought about him for a long time. We became friends while he worked for Nunzi in Nutley and won the lottery big prize of $50K way back when. I will never forget Jerry and the fun stories and laughs we shared for so many years when I was so young. Like Dan Ramm, I too would stop in the shop just to spend time yukking it up. I remember when Joni would come in with the girls when they were so small and remember with great fondness the time I and my then girlfriend had dinner at Jerry and Joni's home. I'm so sorry to learn of a truly nice and good man's too early passing and I wish Joni and the family only the best now and in the future. God bless Jerry.
Sincerely, Jack Cox - Wayne, NJ

A. It is with extreme sadness that we have read about the "passing" of Jerry Piserchia: "Big Jer" gave my grandchildren their first haircuts and also our own young son. What a guy! Loved by all: yes even by the kids who would cry at times.
B. When we read Ecclesiastes we are told:
"To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die."
Poet John Donne addresses the fact that "Death, be not Proud" for he believed that after a "short sleep" we wake eternally in our Heaven and "...death shall die."
Many of us believe that there is only one Life, eternal & indestructible, a Life that cannot die. Each one of us is a part of that life, an individualization of the One Eternal Life; and Big Jer is also a part of that life.
Once we understand this belief, we will cease to fear death for ourselves and our loved ones, for we shall all meet again in God's Heaven.
C. God bless the Piserchia family during their time of sadness.
