Dear Burgio Family,
Carmen was my "birthday buddy". I will miss trying to surprise him first on our mutual birthdays. He was a true friend and I would never hesitate to call him with any medical or pharmacy related problem. He even gave me his home phone number to call anytime night or day in an emergency. He was always upbeat and knew all his customers by name. He will be truly missed.

We have lost one of the greatest men I've ever known. Carmen was my mentor, my friend and I considered him family. There are very few men in my life ( my own father being one of them ) that I can say I have been able to trust and could always rely on to be the positive reinforcement that I needed to get through hard times. Carmen was one of those people for me. As I read through the many messages - I am not the only one who has had their life changed because of Carmen's kind heart, wisdom and generosity. I will do my best to pass along the lessons Carmen has taught me not only about being a pharmacist but about life. My heart is broken and I will truly miss him. My love and prayers go out to the Burgio family. Thank you for sharing such an incredible man with the world!!
Love always-

Dear Burgio Family,
My deepest sympathy to all of you. Carmine was a gentleman, a professional and a caring person. When my husband Lou and I moved to Totowa in 1978, we starting using Burgio's as our pharmacy. Carmen gave us his home phone number and told us not to hesitant if we needed him after hours. Sure in the middle of the night, after a stop at the emergency room, we called Carmine and without a question, he met us at the pharmacy to fill the prescription......a kind gesture that we never forgot. He was so helpful when my husband Lou became ill.....thank you Carmine for your care and concern. Rest peacefully .......

He was complaining of how the doctors were putting him through so many tests that he did not like. I miss him so much already. I am in a state of shock.

Dear Eileen and Family,
The character of some men can be accurately appraised after one meeting. Carmen was one of those men. A wave hello, a conversation, or simply observing his remarkable work ethic was all it took to recognize Carmen was a man of the highest moral fiber. Carmen cared. Our family benefited tremendously from that care. Carmen's life touched many and his spirit will continue to do the same. He will be missed. Totowa, the pharmacy world, and human decency have suffered an enormous loss with his passing.

I remember Carmen when he used to work for Martucci's Pharmacy in Paterson and he used to deliver my parents prescriptions back in the day. I remember him as a very friendly and caring person. A while back I had stopped in the store to purchase something and he was behind the counter in back. When he saw me he immediately recognized me and inquired how I was doing, and that made me feel real good.
So sorry for your loss and will keep the family in my thoughts and prayers.

Because of Carmen, my life has been successful as he directed me and guided me from the moment I met him. As I toured the country with Angelia Baccari not knowing if I wanted to just play music for a living, Carmen would firmly say to me " Michael, get that sheep skin" and he was so right as without my college degree I would never be where I am now and I will forever be in debt to my friend, mentor and buddy. This is a shock as he was way too young the leave us.

Carmen has been a friend of our family for so long, it is hard for me to remember when it began. My Dad, James "Jiggers" Pasquariello, a stoney roader used to take me to Martucci's Pharmacy and that is when I first met Carmen. My father loved him and when he opened his own pharmacy, we all supported him. Even my wife's family went to Burgio Pharmacy. My father is long gone, and I live in South Jersey now, but my youngest daughter, Suzanne Benvenuti, who lives in Little Falls, still goes to Burgio Pharmany. In 2008, my wife and I were on a New England cruise and someone tapped me on the shoulder and it was Carmen. I said, "Carmen what the hell are you doing here." He was on a different cruise ship than us. I said "boy, I am glad I am not fooling around. We laughed and gave each other a hug. What was there not to like about Carmen. Totowa lost one of the best this week. I was saddened to hear of Carmen's passing yesterday. Growing up in Totowa there was only one place to get our prescriptions filled and free health advice. I remember going into Burgio's early one morning with one of the kid's prescriptions from a late night emergency room visit. Carmen scolded me for not calling him during the night saying,"If this ever happens again you call me anytime, I don't care what time it is, I will get down here and fill it for you."
He never failed to remind me of how my dad taught his kids to swim in the Longo's pool one summer. And then there were the conversations about his family whom he adored. Carmen defined service with a smile. Even CVS could not take away his dedicated customers.
My late husband David, myself and my family will be forever grateful to Carmen and Eileen for their dedicated service to us, my parents, friends and neighbors. Rest in Peace Carmen and Thanks.

Mrs. Burgio and Family,
I was so saddened to hear of Mr. Burgio's passing. He was always so kind to Tom and me whenever we came into the pharmacy. He was a conscientious and friendly person. One situation that immediately comes to mind was when I was overcharged for a prescription a day or two before New Year's Day because of an insurance issue. I told the person at the register not to worry, that we would straighten it out after the holiday. Mr. Burgio called me on New Year's morning to apologize. I remember thanking him for reaching out to me, but not to worry and to enjoy his holiday with his family. This just shows what type of man he was.
We will miss seeing him.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of you.

We were beyond blessed to have such an amazing uncle who was so dedicated to his family. We loved him deeply with all of our heart and words cannot express our sadness. I cannot capture almost 40 years of memories but I can share with you the simplistic but pointed wisdom children possess.
When I broke down in front of my five year daughter Emily to tell her the sad news she was heartbroken. Both my children loved him to pieces. She stated this was the worst day of her life. Of course, I cry more. Within a minute she then says it will be better since Tuesday is pajama day at school. My tears turned into laughter and it reminded me how Uncle Carmen made us laugh.
May the Peace of Christ be with Uncle Carmen and our family. He is reunited with his Mom, Dad and Matthew in Heaven. Knowing this is the best prescription that can ever be filled.
Rest in Peace in those comfortable pajamas!
We loved you so much
