Obituary of Mildred Gloria Asea

Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Asea, Mildred Gloria, (nee Scherer), 87, of Paterson, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord Jesus on, April 29, 2014, in the presence of her loving family. Mildred was born January 17, 1927 in Lackawaxen, PA, but grew up in Cochecton Center, NY. She was the daughter of Eva Brink and Milton Scherer, and her stepdad was Clifford Brink. Mildred moved to Paterson with her family while a teenager. She attended Eastside High School, and worked during the war at Curtiss-Wrights Aero-Corp, she later met her future husband, George Asea, who had recently returned from the navy, at a roller skating rink in Paterson. They were married for 58 years. She was a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Paterson. Her main passion was reading her Bible and telling others the good news about the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Her second devotion was to her husband, children, grand and great grandchildren. When you thought of Mildred, you thought of Bible reading, feeding her birds, her poems, homemade cookies, going to church, nature walks with the grand kids, crocheting afghans for all the family, and her saying on a cold winter day, "You need a hat on." She was greatly loved, and will be missed, but she wanted all to know her last day on earth, would also be her graduation day to Heaven. Mildred is predeceased by her dear husband George. Devoted Mother of Linda Messina and her husband, Eddie, Michael Asea and his wife Ronnie, Bonnie Schoen and her husband, Bill, George Asea, Jr. and his wife, Wendy, and Darlene Asea. Loving Grandmother of Sherri, Crystal, Bree, Lance, Matthew, Tiffany, Brian, Amy and Mark. Proud Great- Grandmother of, Madison, Nicolas and Leonardo. Beloved sister of the late Joyce (Casterline) Foster, and many nieces and nephews. Her family extends their gratitude to their Mom's home care aide (and friend) Hawa, who helped take great care of her for the past year. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa, on Monday at 10:30 AM. Funeral service to follow at Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 900 Madison Ave., Paterson at 11:00 AM. Entombment at Laurel Grove Mausoleum, Totowa. Friends may visit Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
