Mr. Parella was my 7th and 8th grade teacher at Franklin in Hawthorne. He was a "snappy" dresser from his loafers to his black T-bird. I met him again in the early 80s in Vernon and he remembered me - by name - from 1961. He asked about everyone; he really cared. We tried last year to find him to invite to our next reunion; I wish we had.

I remember walking to Franklin school in 1962 and seeing Mr. Perralla's black Tbird. I also remember that he was a tough teacher and took no crap from anyone. I unfortunately never had him as a teacher. RIP

As my 7th and 8th grade teacher in '60 and '61, we had great debates about the Kennedy/Nixon election. He moderated with no bias showing. I think we learned more in those 2 years than some with many more years of education now.

I remember Rudy Parrella as a beloved teacher at Franklin School in Hawthorne NJ. Feared by some and loved by most. He called me "Little Doug" because he taught my brother and loved him. I'm sad to see he is gone and I send my prayers to his family.

Some people you meet in life stay with you in some way for years. Mr. Parrella was one of those persons. As a young teenager at VTHS I had the opportunity to learn from him. I am thankful to have had this opportunity.

I had the honor to work for Mr. Parrella as a teacher, an assistant principal (for a short time) and I was a peer as an administrator in Vernon. Few people were as wise in life. For someone who did not have kids, he knew kids. He could make you laugh and cry within minutes. I learned so much from him by watching, listening and following. He was a mentor and friend and I am blessed to have known him.

It is with great sadness that I received the news of Rudy's passing. I have known Rudy since kindergarten and came to know him well in my high school years. He was a great spirit who knew how to rule with fairness, authority and a little levity. I regret that I never got to play a round of golf with him.

Rudy - A great man, friend, and golf buddy! We always had fun on and off the golf course! He was the elder statesman for the "Monday Hackers" golf group. Rudy didn't talk a lot but when he did he spoke softly and with great passion! We all listened! We miss him - Gods Peace & Love!

I am going to miss my "other grandfather" so much. From the time I was little playing on his white, itchy shag rug, to the getting me lost and telling me to find my way home when I was only four. The quiet way he had about him was both daunting and comforting. The stories and memories I have are going to last a lifetime and I am so thankful that I got to share 30 years of my life with him.
