Ritchie, Samuel J., Jr., age 93 of Haledon at rest in Wayne on June 29, 2011. Loving Father of Thomas Joseph Ritchie of Fl, Kathleen E. Ritchie of Haledon, and the late Susan R. Mol. Brother of Andrew Peter Ritchie of South Jersey and the late Mary Margaret, James and Charles Ritchie. Also survived by 3 grandchildren. Born in Paterson, he lived in Paterson, before moving to Haledon in 1982. He was an Electrician for the Maintenance Department for Curtiss-Wright Corp., Paterson, for 45 years before retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the 121st Naval Construction Battalion, redesignated the 3rd Battalion, 20th Regiment, 4th Marine Division, participating in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He was entitled to wear one star on Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon for participation in battle of Roi-Namar, Marshall Islands AUTH; Cominch US Fleet 1tr FF1/p15 serial 13, dated 2Jan45. He was entitled to wear one star on Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon for participation in battle of Saipan-Tinian Islands, The Marianas AUTH; Cominch US Fleet 1tr FF1/p15 Ser 13, dated 2Jan45. He was entitled to wear Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon with one star permanently AUTH:4thMarDiv 1tr 1740-104/gws, serial 10089, dated 21Jan45. Copy of Citation in Service Record. He was authorized to wear Seabee Shoulder Insignia. Entered in accordance with BuPers Cir.Ltr.309-44, N.D.Bulletin of 15 October 1944. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Paterson. Friends may call Wednesday 10-11 AM.
