Brightman, Gregg L. age 61 of Bloomingdale at rest in Bloomingdale on June 9, 2011. Born in Paterson, he lived in Paterson for 25 years before moving to Bloomingdale. He was a Lieutenant for the Paterson Police Department, working there for 29 years before retiring October 1, 2003. Mr. Brightman was a life member of the Paterson PBA Local #1. He was a member of the New Jersey State Police Honor Legion and was a member of the Retired Police and Fire Local #5. He was an avid bowler and golfer. He was meticulous with his landscaping and loved to move rocks and create gardens. In his retirement, his favorite times were spending time with his family at his home in Myrtle Beach, SC. Beloved husband of Gail (nee Fitzgerald) of Bloomingdale. Loving Father of Gregg D. Brightman of Bloomingdale and Kelly Thompson & her husband, Barry of Bloomingdale. Brother of Kent Brightman of Wayne. Brother in law of Carl "Butch" and Barbara Padula of Pompton Lakes and Edward & Nancy Fitzgerald of Pequannock. Loving grandfather of Nicholas Thompson. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and his 4 beloved dogs, Patches, Allie, Max, and Rosco. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Monday at 8:15 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Gerard RC Church, Paterson at 9:00 AM. Entombment at Laurel Grove Mausoleum, Totowa. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Judes Children's Hospital PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-0050 or the Humane Society would be appreciated.
