The "Word" for February 24th is so Joe Pizza: "I am Unbounded and Free" Here we are told that those who are free "...accept themselves just as they are, just as they were created." Joe was an expression of Spirit, with a grateful heart, special skills and talents that shaped his unique experience. Joe Pizza "honored" his God given gifts of imagination, creativity and leadership. So he lived the life God gave him to live and he loved every minute of it.
Joe's community service is incalculable in the effects he has had upon numerous individuals, especially those in need.
I thought of the years I (Jerry Bello) have known Joe Pizza and our personal discussions when visiting him at his "Shop" which afforded me a particular insight into this wonderful man and his personality. I believe Joe Pizza lived the ultimate question of "Man's Search for Meaning."
Eric Fromm tells us "...man must make his life meaningful by living productively." : this is truly Joe Pizza.
To know Joe Pizza is to love Joe Pizza. Let us remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles, the voice (Joe sang at our wedding)of Joseph M. Pizza as we pray: Lord our God, the death of Joseph Pizza recalls our human conditiion and the brevity of our lives on earth. But for those of us who believe, as Joe Pizza believed, in Your love, death is not the end, nor does it destroy the bonds that You forge in our lives. Nadine and I pray for Joe and for those who love him.
