Obituary of Marie A. Tienken

Marie A. Tienken, Jefferson Township resident for 70 years. Tienken, Marie A. (nee Bonaccolta), age 94, resident of Milton, Jefferson Township for 70 years passed away on August 19, 2008 at Hospice of New Jersey, Wayne of congestive heart failure. Born in Palermo, Sicily, Italy she came to the United States in 1928 at the age of fourteen along with her mother and siblings. Her father, who was a Major in the Italian Army, came to this country five years prior to set up a barbershop in Brookyn, NY. The family settled in the Bronx and later moved to Jersey City where Marie Tienken finished her schooling and took a job with Colgate. In 1938 she married Henry C. Tienken, who came from Germany at the age of twelve, and together they moved to Jefferson Township where they set up a business known as Tienkens Poultry Farm. Marie and her husband operated the farm for over twenty five years which supplied a good part of northern New Jersey with poultry and eggs. Marie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Hal Sargent of West Paterson, a son Henry Tienken of Newton, grandchildren Richard Altamura, Anthony Altamura and his wife Heather and two great-grandchildren Jillian and Joseph Altamura. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Friday at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Simon R.C.
