Born in Paterson, she's lived in Totowa for most of her life settling here in 1962. Mary was a parishioner of St. James R.C. Church, Totowa.
Mary Mantione was a beautiful person. She was kind, warm, loving, thoughtful, sweet and caring. She made a lasting, positive impression on everyone who met her throughout her amazing life. Her greatest joys were her parents, her husband and children, her many lifelong friends and her love for the Blessed Mother, St Anthony and Jesus. Mary was an outstanding wife and mother. She was an excellent cook and homemaker. She was a magnificent full-time Mom.
Mary was friendly and pleasant and made a genuine connection with everyone that interacted with her. She was the most thoughtful woman and always considered others' feelings and put them first. Mary had many lifelong friends and treasured those friendships. She loved her cousins and relatives from New Jersey and New York a great deal. She made time for everyone and was always available to listen and support with empathy and endless patience.
Mary loved to read and had many books. She was fluent in both English and Italian. She loved history and was always a fan of the movies and country music. She loved her time away on vacation and would often sit under a palm tree and read and pray. Mary loved her coffee and desserts and always shared with everyone. She loved to shop and was a stylish dresser. She had a great eye for fashion and every salesperson knew her and loved her. Wherever Mary went, she made friends.
Mary treated everyone with respect and kindness, equally. Her compassion for others was infinite. Mary was funny and made you laugh. She had many facial expressions and had a twinkle in her eyes. She was smart and knew just what to say to help you and to make you feel better. She was humble and down-to-earth and could always be heard saying "thank you." She was a strong woman, petite with the biggest heart.
Mary was a gift, an angel on earth, who made the world a better place. She will be remembered forever and missed every day. "I love you, Mom, as much as the whole wide world and with all my heart."
