John Schomach Obituary

John Schomach passed away peacefully in Fairfield, New Jersey at the age of 94. John was born on Jackson Street in Paterson, NJ on January 25, 1932, to the late John and Stella Schomach.  They lived on Jackson Street for many years and then moved to Paxton Street in the early fifties along with his late brothers, Michael Szczomak and Steven Szczomak.  In 1982, John and Steven moved to Clifton, NJ (living like 2 Bachelors) until Steven’s passing in 2014.  At his family's home on Paxton St., John enjoyed gardening; tomatoes and peach trees were some of the staples in his garden.  In addition to gardening, John enjoyed working on cars and many other mechanical items in his younger years.  John graduated from Central High School in Paterson, NJ and then served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1955.  He came home with many beautiful pieces of China from Germany.  After an Honorable Discharge, John returned to Paterson, NJ and began working at Picatinny Arsenal, in Wharton, NJ, where he retired in 1995.  In addition to gardening and fixing cars, John was an active weightlifter, where he always brought his dumb bells down the Jersey Shore so as not to miss a day of working out.  When he moved to Clifton, he was often known to run in Clifton Parks, being cheered on by his younger brother Steven.  He enjoyed his Sunday visits to the vegetable market on Railway Avenue, seeing what deals he can get and then bringing all his great deals to the home of his late Brother Michael and late sister-in-law Josephine, also his nephew John Michael Szczomak.  Josephine would cook something nice for all to enjoy.   He was very proud of the money he saved!John is survived by his nephew John Michael Szczomak (son of the late Michael and Josephine Szczomak) and his wife JodySzczomak. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Wednesday at 9:15 AM.  Funeral Mass to follow at St. Nicholas Ukranian Catholic Church, Passaic at 10:00 AM.  Interment at St. Michael's Cemetery, South Hackensack.  Friends may visit Tuesday 4:00-8:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Nicholas Ukranian Catholic Church, Passaic, NJ would be appreciated.
