Catherine M. Spagnola (nee Surak), age 80, of Toms River, passed peacefully on December 24, 2025, and was called home, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and family that will never fade.
Catherine was truly the heart of her family. For nearly 62 beautiful years, she shared a deep and enduring marriage with her beloved husband, Anthony F. Spagnola—a partnership rooted in love, sacrifice, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Together, they built a family that became
Catherine’s greatest joy and life’s purpose. She was a devoted and loving mother to Jacqueline Spagnola, Tony Spagnola and his wife Audrey, John Spagnola, and Damon Spagnola.
Catherine was a cherished grandmother to Tamra and her husband Jeremy, Samantha, Anthony, Julia, Vincent, and John, Jr.
Catherine was also a proud great-grandmother to Conner and Travis, who brought her immeasurable happiness. Her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew no bounds. She was their biggest supporter, their safe place, and their constant—always present, always giving, always loving.
Born in Paterson, Catherine spent most of her life there before later moving to Toms River. One of ten siblings, she was raised in a large family and shared lifelong bonds with many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
A devoted homemaker and caretaker, Catherine lived her life in service to others. Her family was everything to her, and she would do absolutely anything for them. She expressed her love in countless ways—through open arms, comforting words, home-cooked meals, and a house that was always filled with warmth and laughter.
Catherine found joy in playing bingo, dancing and singing, and cooking for the entire family, where every meal was an act of love. Most of all, she cherished making memories with those she loved, moments that will now be treasured forever.
Though she may no longer be seen, her love remains deeply woven into the lives she touched. Her kindness, strength, laughter, and unconditional devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd, Totowa, on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4:00–8:00 PM. Cremation is private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be deeply appreciated.
Catherine’s life was a beautiful testament to love, family, and selflessness. She will be forever missed and forever loved.
