Julia M. West Obituary

In Loving Memory of Julia West (De Vries)

May 31, 1938 – October 18, 2025

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Julia West (De Vries), a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend, who passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in Clifton, New Jersey, to parents who were proud immigrants from Friesland, Holland, Julia's life was one of deep faith, unconditional love, and quiet strength.

Julia was devoted to her family. She and her beloved husband, Robert, built a life together in Totowa, NJ, where they raised their two children, Robert and Margie, in a home filled with love and joy. Family vacations were a big part of their lives, creating lasting memories that the family treasures to this day. Her Husband, was the love of Julia's life. Together, they especially cherished their time spent in Venice, Florida, where they enjoyed winter months and formed many enduring friendships. After his passing, Julia continued her visits to Venice each year a place that remained close to her heart.

Back home in Totowa, Julia was a warm and generous presence in the community. She lovingly cared for many children over the years and worked as a teacher's aide at the local grammar school, where she touched the lives of students with her gentle and nurturing spirit.

Julia was a beloved sister to her two brothers and a dear sister, with whom she shared a lifelong bond. She was a cherished aunt to her nieces and nephews, and a loving mother-in-law to Linda. In her later years, she was surrounded by devoted caregivers who provided compassionate support and companionship, for which the family is deeply grateful.

Julia's legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is predeceased by her late husband Robert W. (2002). Julia is survived by her children, Margie and Robert, her daughter-in-law Linda, her siblings Jerry, Margie Soranno (husband Joseph), and Bert, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a wake on Tuesday, October 21st, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by an on-site service. Entombment will take place immediately afterward at Fair Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Julia's honor may be made to the First Baptist Church in Caldwell, NJ, or Child Evangelism Fellowship of North Jersey.
