EULOGY FOR MOM - FROM HER SON JOSEPH JR. and DAUGHTER ANGEL
THANK YOU ALL FOR GATHERING HERE TODAY to celebrate the incredible life of our beloved mother, Margaret Schiavo. Taking care of her the past few years was a labor of love, and though it was challenging to watch her go through dementia and succumb to her other health issues, we will cherish every moment we spent with her.
Mom had a dry sense of humor, but we still made her laugh! She always dressed nicely and never looked her age! She found joy in simple pleasures, such as going to church, going to movies, eating at diners, playing blackjack 21, camping, word puzzles, volunteering at nursing homes and taking trips to the dollar store. She was fiercely independent, especially after my dad passed in 2018, she kept it going in the house by herself in Paterson. In addition to that, It was truly inspiring to see her driving her Toyota Highlander truck up until the age of 89 (2 months shy of her 90th birthday).
In her final days, she was surrounded by family and friends ensuring she felt the warmth and love that she had always given us. My sister Angela was by her side as she took her last breath, making sure she did not pass away alone in her room.
Now, Mom is free from pain and reunited with our dad, her family, and dear friends. While we deeply miss her, we find comfort in knowing that she is free of pain and discomfort.
Mom, your love, strength, and spirit will forever live in our hearts. We will always cherish the memories and the lessons you have taught us. Rest in peace, Dear Mom.
