Obituary of Angelo Intrieri
Intrieri, Angelo age 78 of Totowa at rest in Totowa on March 9, 2025. Beloved husband of Bruna (nee Santoro) Intrieri of Totowa. Loving father of Luigi Intrieri of Totowa, Tina DeRose & her husband Michael of East Hanover and Angela Intrieri of Totowa. Devoted grandfather of Andrew and Vincent DeRose. Dear son of the late Luigi and the late Fortuna Intrieri. Dear brother of Vittoria Veneziani of Calabria, Italy and the late Agostino Intrieri, the late Salvatore Intrieri, the late Damiano Intrieri, and the late Emilia Rubino. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews both in Italy and USA.
Born in San Pietro Guarano, Prov. di Cosenza, Italy, he came to the United States in 1963 residing in Paterson before moving to Totowa in 1983.
Angelo emigrated from Italy to America as a young boy at the age of 15 with very little education and without being able to understand or speak a word of English. He had no more than a few dollars in his pocket but got acclimated very quickly and began working as a golf caddy during the day and worked at Minardi’s Bakery at night into the morning as a baker. The youngest of 6 children he worked tirelessly to help provide for his family in every which way possible. Through work he was able to learn to speak and understand the English and Spanish languages. To date he would speak all three languages fluently and took pride that he was able to teach himself. Angelo had a strong Catholic faith and even served as an altar boy for many years as a young boy.
Angelo was an entirely selfless being. He had a heart of gold. He was someone who would graciously help anyone out often without even having to be asked. He lived to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it without wanting anything in return. He always put his family’s needs and wants before his own. He made many sacrifices and worked tirelessly to make sure his wife and children were happy and he was able to provide them a good life.
Angelo took pride in his home especially the lawn and he enjoyed tending to his garden and sharing his vegetables with family and friends. When he wasn’t spending hours outside doing yardwork, he enjoyed watching the soccer games and cheering on his favorite team, Juventus. He also enjoyed making wine. He loved dancing and would always speak of awards he received in his younger days.
Angelo was a devoted husband, father and Nonno. His greatest joy in life was truly his family, especially his two grandsons, Andrew and Vincent. He loved his grandsons more than life itself and he made sure he told them that every second he had. Every time he saw them, he would light up and have the biggest smile. He always referred to them as “his heart”. He looked forward to Sunday dinners and weekends down the shore because if his family was all there, he was complete.
He was a Butcher for Santoro's Meat Market, Totowa for over 40 years, then for A&A Butcher, Lincoln Park for 11 years before retiring in 2016. He was a parishioner of St. James R.C. Church, Totowa and was a former member of IERI, OGGI, DOMANI, East Rutherford. He was also a former member of the Roma Club in Paterson.
