Antonio was born in 1929, in Cerreto Sannita, (BN) Italy to Nicola and Michela Maietta. He was raised with his brother, Liberato, and his four sisters, Grazia, Concetta, Lucia, and Eleonora. After being sponsored by his sister, he brought his family to America in 1968. Antonio worked as a self taught diesel mechanic for fourty years. Outside of work, Antonio was passionate about gardening, spending much of his free time tending to his beloved vegetable garden. A man of many talents, Antonio brought with him the skills he learned in the old country, including the art of making wine and curing meats. Known as the Italian "MacGyver," he had a remarkable talent for problem-solving and could often be found tinkering at his workbench, always fixing or improving something. Nothing made Antonio happier than having a house full of family and friends, enjoying good food, good wine, and each other's company. Music was ever-present in Antonio's life—he was always whistling or singing a tune, filling the air with joy. A devoted soccer fan, Antonio cheered for the Italian national team, "Forza Azzurri!" He also enjoyed boxing and wrestling, always keeping an eye on his favorite matches. Antonio is survived by his sister, Eleonora DiLauro and her husband Romolo DiLauro, and his children, Nicola Maietta and his wife Maria Maietta, Michele Maietta and his wife Michelle Maietta, Michelina Robb and her husband John Robb III, and Antonella Maietta and her fiance James Leitch; his grandchildren, Cristina and Michael Maietta, John Robb IV, and Nicolette Maietta, as well as many nieces and nephews. Antonio's legacy lives on through his love of family, his work ethic, and his many hobbies that brought joy to his life. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
