Hayden, Kenneth W., of Lavallette, passed away in Toms River on July 3, 2015. Ken is survived by his beloved wife, Dianne, his sisters-in-law Marge Tremain and Joanna Hayden; his nieces Bernice, Jennifer and Maureen Hayden, and Elizabeth ,Valerie, and Barbara, his nephews Steven Hayden and Michael, great nieces Marissa, Gabrielle, Ava, Elizabeth, Adrian, Lindsey, and Amber and great nephews Frankie, Marc, and Lucas, and a host of dear friends. Ken is predeceased by his parents William J. and Anna (nee Spence) Hayden; his late brothers William and Donald Hayden; and his nephew Billy Hayden. Ken was born and raised in Paterson and lived there before moving to Lavallette, NJ in 1990. He served his country during WW II in the United States Navy. After graduating from William Paterson University, Ken taught in Paterson School #27 for 3 years before entering government service, serving in every branch. He was elected 8th Ward Alderman for the City of Paterson. Ken left teaching to serve as Secretary to the Paterson Fire and Police Commission from 1963-1974. He was appointed to the Passaic Valley Water Commission in 1970 and served on the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission from 1984 to 1989. He also served on the Congressional Review Board, Selective Service Draft Board #37, and as First President of the Great Falls Corporation (1971). After Paterson’s change of government, Ken served as the Senior Administrative Assistant, Paterson Dept. of Community Development. His many talents led him to be a Remedial Instructor, Passaic County Jail; Quality Assurance Representative, NJ Transit; Safety Director and Administrative Assistant to the Chief Engineer of Passaic Valley Water Commission. Ken was elected Councilman – at – Large for Paterson and served from 1982-1990, serving two consecutive terms as President. As a member of St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish, Lavallette, Ken was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. Ken was also a member of John Raad Post 438, American Legion; Veteran of Foreign War Post #7165; Passaic Valley Elks Lodge 2111; Honorary Silver Card Recipient, NJ PBA #1; Honorary Gold Card Recipient, NJ FMBA #2; Lifetime Member A.F.L- CIO, Musicians Union Local 248; Secular Franciscans, St. John Vianney-St. Elizabeth of Hungary Fraternity, Paterson. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa on Wednesday at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. Bonaventure R.C. Church, Paterson at 10:15 AM. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum, Totowa. Relatives and friends may visit Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Deborah Heart and Lung Center, 212 Trenton Rd., Browns Mills, NJ 08015, or to an animal rescue shelter of choice, would be greatly appreciated.
